Resurgam is Latin for “I shall rise again”: first person, future tense, a statement rather than a wish. By the old story, it was the word carved on a gravestone fragment that Christopher Wren picked up when he began rebuilding St Paul’s after the Great Fire.
Description
RESURGAM. One Latin word, and a whole position on life. It means “I shall rise again”: first person, future tense, not a wish and not a prayer, but a statement. It has a long history in London stone. The story goes that when Christopher Wren began rebuilding St Paul’s Cathedral after the Great Fire of 1666, he asked a workman to bring a stone to mark where the dome would stand. The workman came back with a fragment of a gravestone carrying a single word, Resurgam. Wren took it as a sign, and the word was later carved on the south front of the cathedral beneath a phoenix rising from flames. That is the spirit of this shirt. You can be knocked down, burned out or written off, and still say it in the future tense. Printed to order on a unisex Gildan 5000 heavy cotton tee. For the person who has been knocked down and got back up anyway.
